SPIONs Conjugate Supported Anticancer Drug Doxorubicin's Delivery: Current Status, Challenges, and Prospects

Naseem Akhtar et al.

Summary: Considerable efforts have been made to develop nano-structured carriers, based on superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), for the delivery of the anticancer drug doxorubicin. These carriers have shown promise in overcoming the limitations of doxorubicin's toxicity, low therapeutic outcomes, inappropriate dosing, metastatic and general resistance, and non-selectivity. The development of SPIONs-based drug delivery modules allows for targeted and stable delivery of doxorubicin to different cancer sites, making it a viable option for cancer treatment.

Ciprofloxacin-Loaded Silver Nanoparticles as Potent Nano-Antibiotics against Resistant Pathogenic Bacteria

Duaa R. Ibraheem et al.

Summary: In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with antibacterial properties were successfully synthesized using the chemical reduction method, and the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) was loaded onto the AgNPs to enhance its antibacterial activity. The new nanocomposite, AgNPs-PEG-CIP, showed higher antibacterial, antibiofilm, and antioxidant activity against the tested pathogenic bacteria compared to CIP alone, indicating its potential as an antibacterial agent.

Enhanced antibacterial activity of size-controlled silver and polyethylene glycol functionalized silver nanoparticles

Basharat Khan et al.

Summary: In this study, size-controlled silver nanoparticles and PEGylated silver nanoparticles were synthesized using the microemulsion-assisted co-precipitation method at different pH levels. The smaller silver nanoparticles exhibited higher antibacterial activity, which was further enhanced by surface functionalization with polyethylene glycol. The pronounced bactericidal effect was attributed to the increase in hydroxyl ions on the surface of silver nanoparticles, especially with higher molecular weight PEGylation.
