Protective Effects of Natural Polysaccharides on Intestinal Barrier Injury: A Review

Jiaying Huo et al.

Summary: This review examines the protective effects of natural polysaccharides (NPs) as adjuvant therapy for diseases caused by intestinal barrier injury (IBI). NPs are found to minimize oxidative stress, inflammation, and malignant growth, making them a potential treatment option for IBI-related diseases. The review discusses the potential mechanisms of NPs in directly maintaining intestinal barrier integrity and indirectly regulating intestinal immunity and microbiota. It also highlights the structure-activity relationships of polysaccharides and the potential challenges associated with using NPs in the treatment of IBI-induced intestinal diseases.

Structure-activity relationship of antioxidant polysaccharides from Huangshui based on the HPLC fingerprint combined with chemometrics methods

Jiaying Huo et al.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between the HPLC fingerprints of Huangshui polysaccharides (HSPs) and their antioxidant activities in vitro for the first time using chemometrics method. The findings showed that the elution method, monosaccharide composition, purity, protein contents, and molecular weights of HSPs all significantly affected their antioxidant activities.

Structure elucidation and intestinal barrier protection of an α-D-glucan in Huangshui

Jiaying Huo et al.

Summary: This study successfully isolated and purified WLY-0 alpha-D-glucan with a molecular weight of 11.12 kDa from Huangshui. WLY-0 demonstrated an irregular flake-like morphology and showed potential in improving intestinal barrier function by regulating cell permeability, inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and enhancing the expression of structural proteins.

Pulse electric field assisted process for extraction of Jiuzao glutelin extract and its physicochemical properties and biological activities investigation

Yunsong Jiang et al.

Summary: In this study, pulse electric field (PEF) was used to improve the extraction efficiency of Jiuzao glutelin extract (JGE). The species, properties, and activities of JGE were investigated. The results showed that PEF treatment increased JGE content by 13.81% compared to ultrasound extraction. Approximately 59.16% of JGE was identified as sorghum-derived. JGE exhibited desirable properties and antioxidant/enzyme inhibitory activities, and showed high cell compatibility in Caco-2 and CCD 841 CON cells.

TLR4 and CD14 trafficking and its influence on LPS-induced pro-inflammatory signaling

Anna Ciesielska et al.

Summary: This article discusses the role of TLR4 in promoting inflammatory responses, including internalization and intracellular trafficking of exogenous endotoxin and bacteria. The authors emphasize the significant impact of internalization rate and endo-lysosomal compartment transport rate on inflammatory responses.
