Citric acid esterified Glutinous Assam bora rice starch enhances disintegration and dissolution efficiency of model drug

Pratap Kalita et al.

Summary: The current work aims to study the physicochemical attributes, tablet disintegration and dissolution efficiency of starch and its derivatives obtained from the glutinous Assam bora rice (G-ABR) variety of Assam, Northeast India. Starch was isolated using a protein denaturation method and a starch derivative was prepared through citric acid modification. G-ABRS and citrated G-ABRS showed better packing rearrangement and cohesive properties than standard corn starch, indicating their potential as functional excipients in pharmaceutical industries.

Effect of dual modification with citric acid combined with ultrasonication on hydrolysis kinetics, morphology and structure of corn starch dispersions

G. Chavez-Esquivel et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of citric acid hydrolysis and citric acid combined with ultrasonication on corn starch dispersions. The results showed that dual modification affected the morphology, sequence, and microstructure of the corn starch granules, leading to an improvement in hydrolysis advance, relative crystallinity, and the amount of double helices.

Effects on the structure and properties of native corn starch modified by enzymatic debranching (ED), microwave assisted esterification with citric acid (MCAE) and by the dual ED/MCAE treatment

Aijun Hu et al.

Summary: Native corn starch was modified by enzymatic debranching (ED), microwave assisted citric acid esterification (MCAE), and by dual ED/MCAE, resulting in starches with different structures and properties. The modified starches showed changes in morphology and crystalline regions, and MCAE treatment led to a new crystalline structure.
