Environmental risks from artificial nighttime lighting widespread and increasing across Europe

Alejandro Sanchez de Miguel et al.

Summary: The nighttime environment of much of Earth is rapidly changing due to the introduction of artificial lighting. This study used imagery obtained from digital cameras on the International Space Station to map the variation in spectral composition of lighting across Europe. The results showed a regionally widespread shift towards white light-emitting diodes with greater blue emissions, increasing the risk of harmful effects to ecosystems.

Adaptations of Vibrio parahaemolyticus to Stress During Environmental Survival, Host Colonization, and Infection

Gururaja Perumal Pazhani et al.

Summary: Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a Gram-negative aquatic bacterium that can infect humans, causing gastroenteritis and wound infections. It has evolved several genetic mechanisms to adapt to survive in the environment and human host, exhibiting strong virulence. Vp possesses multiple secretion systems that induce cytotoxicity and enterotoxicity in the human body.
