Hydrological regulation ofVibriodynamics in a tropical monsoonal estuary: a classification and regression tree approach

Kiran Krishna et al.

Summary: The study focused on the dynamics of Vibrio populations in the Cochin estuary in India and found that salinity is the primary determinant of Vibrio abundance. The classification and regression tree outperformed multiple linear regression in performance index, indicating the limitations of the latter in complex systems like estuaries.

Diversity and Abundance of Denitrifying Bacteria in the Sediment of a Eutrophic Estuary

Hongxia Ming et al.

Summary: The relationships between denitrifying microbial communities and their controlling factors are largely unknown in eutrophic estuaries sediment. This study in the Liaohe Estuary showed that nirS-type denitrifiers were consistently more abundant and diverse than nirK and nosZ-type denitrifiers, likely playing a key role in nitrogen removal, especially at nearshore stations. The main factors affecting denitrification were salinity, nitrogen levels, and sediment grain size. These results provide valuable information about denitrifying microbiota dynamics in marine sediments.

Effect of Tidal Cycle on Escherichia coli Variability in a Tropical Estuary

Sanjiba Kumar Baliarsingh et al.

Summary: Although no significant variability of E. coli was observed between the upper and lower estuary of the Mahanadi estuary, the overall average count was higher during low tide and lower during high tide due to salinity fluctuations. Intermittent surpasses of E. coli counts above recommended limits in the Mahanadi estuary indicate potential health risks, emphasizing the need for frequent water quality monitoring and management strategies.

Biodegradation of Crude Oil Spill Using Bacillus Subtilis and Pseudomonas Putida in Sequencing Method

Harmin Sulistiyaning Titah et al.

Summary: Crude oil activities pose extreme pollution and hazards, requiring critical solutions, especially for oil spills. Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas putida show high efficiency in TPH removal from crude oil but may require acceleration of degradation process.

Vibrio Species in an Urban Tropical Estuary: Antimicrobial Susceptibility, Interaction with Environmental Parameters, and Possible Public Health Outcomes

Anna L. B. Canellas et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the cultivable Vibrio community in the heavily polluted Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, revealing the presence of antimicrobial-resistant and potentially pathogenic Vibrio species. Environmental factors such as water temperature, salinity, and nutrient concentrations were associated with bacterial isolation rates. The findings raise concerns about human exposure risks to these waters.

A changing estuary: Understanding historical patterns in salinity and fecal coliform levels in the May River, SC

Jamileh Soueidan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that salinity decreased and fecal coliform levels increased in the May River, South Carolina watershed from 1999 to 2017, influenced by spatial, temporal, environmental, and anthropogenic factors. The analysis predicts further decreases in salinity and increases in fecal coliform levels due to the synergistic effects of climate change and watershed development.
