Content and quality of clinical practice guidelines for the management of type 2 diabetes in India: A systematic review

Summary: Over the past few decades, the number of individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in India has increased. In response, various clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been developed to aid both western and traditional Indian medicine practitioners in managing this disease. This systematic review examined the content and quality of these CPGs. The results showed that out of the five CPGs included, one high-quality CPG from the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India/Endocrine Society of India (RSSDI/ESI) could be recommended for western medicine practitioners in India to manage T2DM. It is suggested that future CPGs, particularly for traditional Indian medicine practitioners, should be developed and updated using standard CPG manuals and quality appraisal tools.

A clinical guideline-based management of type 2 diabetes by ayurvedic practitioners in Nepal: A feasibility cluster randomized controlled trial protocol

Summary: This study aims to determine the feasibility of a definitive cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) by ayurvedic practitioners. It will recruit 120 new T2DM patients in Nepal and follow them up for 6 months. Qualitative interviews will be conducted to explore participants' experiences and perspectives, as well as reasons for nonparticipation.

Effectiveness and Safety of Ayurvedic Medicines in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Management: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness and safety of Ayurvedic medicines for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that certain Ayurvedic medicines can lower glycated hemoglobin and fasting blood glucose levels, but the methodological quality of the studies needs improvement. Few studies assessed health-related quality of life and adverse events were not well reported.
