Normal range of ocular biometry in healthy children: A systemic review and meta-analysis of 33,559 individuals under seven years of age

Yanxian Chen et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systemic review and meta-analysis on the normative range of ocular biometry in healthy children under seven years of age. The results showed that there were few differences in ocular biometry between infants and pre-schoolers of different ethnicities.

Age-related changes of lens thickness and density in different age phases

Yin-Hao Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes in lens thickness and density with age. The results showed that both lens thickness and density were significantly associated with age, but they did not change linearly. Lens thickness decreased in the first 7 years of life, remained stable from 8 to 16 years old, and then increased at a steady rate. Lens density decreased with age until 7 years old, increased rapidly from 7 to 22 years old, and slowed down after 22 years old. The changing tendencies of lens cortical and nuclear density varied across different age phases.

Morphometric analysis of in vitro human crystalline lenses using digital shadow photogrammetry

Ashik Mohamed et al.

Summary: A new optical device was built to measure the shape and size of human eye lenses. The study found that with age, the thickness and diameter of the lens increase, as do the anterior and posterior radii of curvature in the central area. Additionally, the shape of the lens surface changes around the age of 20.

Alternative splicing of the metalloprotease ADAMTS17 spacer regulates secretion and modulates autoproteolytic activity

Zerina Balic et al.

Summary: ADAMTS proteases play important roles in the biosynthesis and breakdown of ECM molecules, with alternative splicing playing a significant role in regulating their proteolytic activity and cellular localization. This study characterizes the impact of alternative splicing on ADAMTS17, revealing two novel splice variants that affect protease activity through structural changes.

Refractive lens power and lens thickness in children (6-16 years old)

Tailiang Lu et al.

Summary: In Chinese children, girls have thicker lenses and higher refractive lens power compared to boys, with shorter axial lengths and smaller corneal curvature radii. Refractive lens power is positively associated with refractive error and lens thickness, and negatively associated with axial length. Changes in refractive lens power, axial length, and lens thickness are important factors in emmetropization and myopization.

Lens thickness and associated ocular biometric factors among cataract patients in Shanghai

Jiaqi Meng et al.

Summary: In a large Chinese cataractous population, the study found that thicker lens may be associated with older age, male gender, thicker CCT, shallower ACD, larger WTW, and flatter anterior corneal curvature. The change of LT was nonlinear as AL increased, with the thickest lens seen in the 20-22 mm AL group. The correlation between LT and other biometric factors remained significant even when stratified by ALs.
