Adsorption behaviour of simulant radionuclide cations and anions in metakaolin-based geopolymer

Xiaobo Niu et al.

Summary: Geopolymers are considered promising materials for radioactive waste disposal, with metakaolin-based geopolymers showing high capacity to immobilise cationic radionuclides. However, they do not have the ability to incorporate anionic radionuclides, and the adsorption capacity varies depending on the source of metakaolin. Cs+ uptake occurs through one-to-one exchange with K+ in MK-GP.

Acid Catalysis over Low-Silica Faujasite Zeolites

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: Low-silica faujasite zeolites sustain framework integrity and porosity upon moderate ion exchange, introducing two kinds of protons within supercages. Protons on site II exhibit higher reactivity for propane reactions compared to protons on site III. Low-silica proton-form FAU zeolites possess protons on site III and provide high-temperature structural and chemical stability, enabling their application as solid-acid catalysts.

Summary: Hydrothermal synthesis of NaY-type zeolite was conducted to investigate the effect of temperature on its properties. Solid-state matrices based on NaY zeolite were obtained through spark plasma sintering, which showed high values of compressive strength and hardness. The physical and chemical stability of the ceramic matrix was studied using various analytical methods.

Stereolithography as a manufacturing method for a hierarchically porous ZSM-5 zeolite structure with adsorption capabilities

Niina Merilaita et al.

Summary: Hierarchically porous structures are crucial for gas adsorption applications and can be manufactured using stereolithography technology. The focus of the study was on optimizing the properties of light-cured resin to ensure stability during shaping and maintaining shape in the debinding process. By successfully preparing slurries, monoliths with channel geometry and retained adsorption properties were created using stereolithography.

Preparation, characterization and application of geopolymer-based tubular inorganic membrane

Zhengwei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study prepared a green, environmentally friendly, fine performance, and controllable pore structure tubular inorganic membrane using cheap slag reinforced metakaolin based geopolymer, which can be used for water filtration and flue-gas treatment. The experimental results showed that the compressive strength and flexural strength of the sodium-based Geo-IM increased, while the potassium-based Geo-IM exhibited better thermal stability and could withstand higher temperatures. The filtration performance of the Geo-IM was characterized by a self-made water filtration and flue-gas treatment device in the laboratory, demonstrating good removal rates for particulate matter and PM2.5 in different solutions.
