Natural flavonoids exhibit potent anticancer activity by targeting microRNAs in cancer: A signature step hinting towards clinical perfection

Hardeep Singh Tuli et al.

Summary: Cancer prevalence and incidence rates have been increasing over the past few decades. To combat this disease, it is necessary to explore safer and more effective molecules. Flavonoids, a class of polyphenols, have shown potential against cancer without significant toxicity to normal cells. They modulate microRNAs to enhance drug sensitivity and suppress cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, and angiogenesis. This review comprehensively discusses the structure, chemistry, and effects of flavonoids like quercetin, luteolin, silibinin, genistein, epigallocatechin gallate, and cyanidin on various cancer types. Targeting miRNAs by flavonoids in cancer cells could be a promising approach for future clinical investigations and affirmation.

Cytotoxicity of Fenugreek Sprout and Seed Extracts and Their Bioactive Constituents on MCF-7 Breast Cancer Cells

Kholoud K. Khoja et al.

Summary: Trigonella foenum-graecum L., commonly known as fenugreek, is a promising plant that contains bioactive compounds with potential anti-cancer effects. This study evaluated the cytotoxic and antiproliferative activities of fenugreek seeds and sprouts in breast cancer cells and identified several flavones and isoflavones in the extracts. The results showed that the fenugreek extracts had dose- and time-dependent effects on cell viability and also increased DNA damage and suppressed metastasis and proliferation in the cancer cells. Fenugreek sprouts were identified as an untapped resource for bioactive compounds.
