Quality of Life and Psychopathology in Lichen Planus: A Neglected Disease Burden

Zeno Fiocco et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the disease burden and impact on quality of life for patients with lichen planus. The results showed that lichen planus had a significant effect on patients' quality of life, with higher impacts observed in cases of genital, ungual, and cutaneous lichen planus. Depression symptoms were also prevalent in a significant portion of patients, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health in conjunction with managing the physical symptoms of lichen planus.

Oral potentially malignant disorders: A consensus report from an international seminar on nomenclature and classification, convened by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer

Saman Warnakulasuriya et al.

Summary: Oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) are associated with an increased risk of oral cancer, and an expert group updated the nomenclature and classification of OPMDs, adding oral lichenoid lesions and oral manifestations of 'chronic graft-versus-host disease' to the list. It is recommended to establish a global research consortium to study the natural history of OPMDs based on the proposed classification.

The relationship between lichen planus and metabolic syndrome

Munise Daye et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between lichen planus and metabolic syndrome, with results showing a significantly higher incidence of metabolic syndrome in lichen planus patients compared to the control group, particularly in oral lichen planus cases which require more attention to metabolic complications.

Lichen Planus

Katharina Boch et al.

Summary: Lichen planus is a T cell-mediated disease affecting the skin and mucous membranes, characterized by inflammatory infiltrate and basal layer degeneration. While usually self-limiting, it can cause significant morbidity. Current treatment includes corticosteroids, but new options like Janus kinase inhibitors and biologics may lead to a change in treatment landscape.

Relationship between acanthosis nigricans, acrochordon and metabolic syndrome in patients with lichen planus

Munise Daye et al.

Summary: The study revealed a significantly higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with lichen planus compared to the control group, along with an increase in skin findings like acanthosis nigricans and acrochordon in these patients. This suggests that the presence of acanthosis nigricans and acrochordon might serve as predictive indicators for metabolic syndrome in patients with lichen planus.

Metabolomic Analysis of Skin Biopsies from Patients with Atopic Dermatitis Reveals Hallmarks of Inflammation, Disrupted Barrier Function and Oxidative Stress

Liis Ilves et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the metabolomic profile of lesional skin of patients with atopic dermatitis, and found significant differences in 77 metabolites and their ratios between lesional skin of atopic dermatitis, non-lesional skin of atopic dermatitis, and skin of controls. The alterations in metabolite levels suggest inflammation, impaired barrier function, and susceptibility to oxidative stress in atopic skin.
