Biofilm through the Looking Glass: A Microbial Food Safety Perspective

Sapna Chitlapilly Dass et al.

Summary: Biofilms in food-processing facilities provide ecological niches for pathogens to colonize and become more tolerant to sanitization. Understanding how multispecies biofilms protect foodborne pathogens and contaminate food is essential for designing interventions to mitigate their impact. This review focuses on the potential food safety issues associated with biofilms in the food-processing environment.

Genomic Insights into Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus spa Type t899 Isolates Belonging to Different Sequence Types

Henok Ayalew Tegegne et al.

Summary: This study revealed the genetic diversity and population structure of Staphylococcus aureus presenting the same spa type, t899, but belonging to different STs. The findings suggest that MLST and spa typing methods should be combined to enhance the accuracy in identifying S. aureus lineages. Additional markers, such as tet(M), sak, and seg genes, could be implemented easily and inexpensively to improve lineage identification.

Resistance profiling and molecular characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from goats in Korea

Abraham Fikru Mechesso et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus aureus isolates from goats in Korea showed high resistance to multiple antimicrobial agents, with MRSA isolates carrying various virulence genes. The findings highlight the potential transmission of MRSA from goats to humans and emphasize the importance of regular microbiological surveillance and preventive strategies in goat farms and slaughterhouses.

Antibiotic Resistance, spa Typing and Clonal Analysis of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Isolates from Blood of Patients Hospitalized in the Czech Republic

Katarina Pomorska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates from the blood of hospitalized patients in the Czech Republic between 2016 and 2018. The majority of MRSA strains were found to be resistant to several antibiotics, with 52 different spa types identified in the analyzed strains. The CC5 clonal complex was predominant in this study, with other CCs such as CC398, CC22, CC8, CC45, and CC97 also present.
