Comparative analysis of differentially expressed genes in Acanthamoeba after ingestion of Legionella pneumophila and Escherichia coli

Eun-Kyung Moon et al.

Summary: This study focused on the gene expression differences in Acanthamoeba infected by Legionella pneumophila or Escherichia coli, identifying important gene regulation changes during infection. These results provide clues for further research on the survival strategy of microorganisms in Acanthamoeba.

Long Non-Coding RNA and mRNA Expression Analysis in Liver of Mice With Clonorchis sinensis Infection

Su Han et al.

Summary: This study compared the expression of lncRNAs and mRNAs in the liver tissue of mice infected with Clonorchis sinensis. The results showed that these RNAs play important roles in the pathogenesis of clonorchiasis and are related to pathways such as FOXO signaling pathway, Wnt signaling pathway, and AMPK signaling pathway. Furthermore, lncRNA Gm8801 was significantly correlated with mRNA Gpam, Irs2, and Tnfrsf19 in ceRNA networks.

Stage-specific miRNAs regulate gene expression associated with growth, development and parasite-host interaction during the intra-mammalian migration of the zoonotic helminth parasite Fasciola hepatica

Alison Ricafrente et al.

Summary: This study describes the miRNAs expressed by different developmental stages of the parasitic worm Fasciola hepatica and identifies new genes and miRNAs involved in parasite development and metabolic pathways. These findings provide novel insight into the regulation of helminth parasite development and have implications for therapeutic development.

Transcriptomic analysis of ribosome biogenesis and pre-rRNA processing during growth stress in Entamoeba histolytica

Sarah Naiyer et al.

Summary: Ribosome biogenesis is a complex process involving multiple factors. In the early-branching protist Entamoeba histolytica, ribosome biogenesis continues during stress and unprocessed pre-rRNA accumulates. Through computational analysis, we identified ribosome biogenesis factors in this protist and found that some factors are missing in humans. Transcriptomic studies revealed the differential regulation of ribosomal factors during stress.

Transcriptomic and proteomic profiling of peptidase expression in Fasciola hepatica eggs developing at host's body temperature

Jana Ilgova et al.

Summary: Fasciola hepatica is a global parasite of livestock that also causes a neglected zoonosis in humans. This study demonstrates significant molecular changes in F. hepatica eggs when cultured at the physiological temperature of the definitive host. The transcriptome and proteome of the eggs underwent noticeable changes, and the peptidase profile was considerably modified on both levels.

Isabelle Q. Phan et al.

Summary: Current treatments for Balamuthia infections are ineffective, leading to high fatality rates. Researchers identified 59 compounds that impact the growth of Balamuthia trophozoites, which could potentially lead to the development of new drugs for improved treatment.

Transcriptomic profiling of three-dimensional cholangiocyte spheroids long term exposed to repetitive Clonorchis sinensis excretory-secretory products

Jung-Woong Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional in vitro cholangiocyte spheroid culture model was established to investigate the intrinsic pathological mechanisms of Clonorchis sinensis infection. Analysis of gene expression changes in ESP-treated cholangiocyte spheroids showed global alterations, with upregulated genes related to immune system processes, the extracellular region, and the extracellular matrix. The findings provide insights into the pathological pathways of liver fluke-associated hepatobiliary disorders and suggest potential therapeutic strategies for this infectious cancer.
