Tuberculosis symptom screening for children and adolescents living with HIV in six high HIV/TB burden countries in Africa

Bryan Vonasek et al.

Summary: In CALHIV, the specificity of TB symptom screening is high, but the sensitivity is low. More accurate screening approaches are needed to optimally identify TB disease in CALHIV.

Patient choice improves self-efficacy and intention to complete tuberculosis preventive therapy in a routine HIV program setting in Uganda

Rachel K. Lim et al.

Summary: In HIV patients, providing the opportunity to choose between directly observed therapy and informed therapy can increase their confidence and intention to complete preventive therapy for tuberculosis. Convenience and travel requirements for therapy completion are important factors in patient decision-making.

Symptom-based Screening Versus Chest Radiography for TB Child Contacts: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Anca Vasiliu et al.

Summary: Our study found that for child contacts under 5 years, a negative symptom-based screening is sufficient to exclude active TB, while a chest radiograph should be considered for child contacts aged 5-14 years. Despite the low concordance between symptom-based screening and chest radiography, most children without TB suggestive symptoms did not have chest radiography findings suggestive of TB.

Tuberculosis preventive therapy for people living with HIV: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Mercedes Yanes-Lane et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy, safety, completion, and drug-resistant TB risk of different TB preventive therapy regimens for people living with HIV through a systematic review and network meta-analysis. The study found that rifamycin-containing regimens were as effective as isoniazid regimens in preventing TB, but may be associated with higher mortality and hepatotoxicity risks.
