Coherent structures decomposition of the flow field in Francis turbine runner under different working conditions

Bo Jiang et al.

Summary: The dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) method is used to decompose and analyze the flow field in the runner of a Francis turbine. The results show that the DMD method successfully decomposes the coherent structures corresponding to a single frequency and studies their temporal and spatial evolution. The high-frequency coherent structures induced by rotor-stator interaction (RSI) are the most stable under different working conditions, while the low-frequency coherent structures are mainly caused by short blade wake and flow separation under off-design conditions.

Experimental Francis Turbine Cavitation Performances of a Hydro-Energy Plant

Wen-Tao Su et al.

Summary: An investigation was conducted on the cavitation characteristics of the Francis turbine and its influence on the hydraulic stability using flow visualization and acoustic emission methods. As the cavitation coefficient decreases, gap cavitation develops first, followed by airfoil cavitation. Airfoil cavitation causes variations in machine flow and head and reduces the amplitude of pressure pulsation.

Cavitation mechanism in turbine runaway process of a pump-turbine

Xiaolong Fu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of cavitation on pressure fluctuation in a pump-turbine through numerical simulations. The results show that the interaction between cavitation and backflow vortices increases the duration and range of vortices, and the two-phase flow model can accurately predict pressure fluctuations.

Influence of leading-edge cavitation on impeller blade axial force in the pump mode of reversible pump-turbine

Di Zhu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of leading-edge cavitation on impeller blade axial force in the pump mode of reversible pump-turbine through numerical simulation and experimental research. The axial force increases first and then decreases rapidly with the development of cavitation, with the largest increase being 5% and the largest decrease being 13%. The change of blade axial force with cavitation development is related to the cavitation occurring on the pressure surface or suction surface of the blade.

Euler-Lagrange study of cavitating turbulent flow around a hydrofoil

Ziyang Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a multi-scale Eulerian-Lagrangian approach to simulate cavitating turbulent flow around a Clark-Y hydrofoil and study bubble dynamics. Numerical predictions show good agreement with experimental data, and the influence of various parameters on the transformation between Euler and Lagrange models is analyzed.

Experimental studies of unsteady cavitation at the tongue of a pump-turbine in pump mode

Zhiyi Yuan et al.

Summary: The paper investigates cavitation at the tongue of a pump-turbine in pump mode, identifying three regimes of bubble cavitation, cloud cavitation, and lock cavitation. The blade passing effect is the main cause of periodic collapsing or shedding of bubble clusters, while attached vortex and pressure gradient contribute to shedding at the developed cloud cavitation stage. Broadband sound in the range of 1000 Hz-2000 Hz can be used for cavitation detection.
