Multi-sub-inlets at cathode flow-field plate for current density homogenization and enhancement of PEM fuel cells in low relative humidity

Yulin Wang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the use of multi-sub-inlet designs on the cathode flow-field plate of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell to improve current density uniformity and overall cell performance. The results show that compared to conventional designs, the multi-sub-inlet design can improve oxygen distribution, enhance water removal capacity, and maintain a low pressure drop, leading to improved cell performance. Additionally, increasing the flow rate of the sub-inlets can further enhance the maximum power density while maintaining oxygen distribution uniformity.

Lattice Boltzmann simulation of a gas diffusion layer with a gradient polytetrafluoroethylene distribution for a proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Yulin Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of polytetrafluoroethylene content and distribution on liquid transport behaviors in gas diffusion layers and the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells was investigated. The results indicate that an increased content of polytetrafluoroethylene favors liquid removal, but an extremely high content could weaken cell performance. Additionally, a reasonably higher polytetrafluoroethylene content in the inlet region of the gas diffusion layer benefits water drainage enhancement.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of heat source temperature, flow, and module number on the thermoelectric performance of a thermoelectric generation system. The results show that the output power increases with the number of modules under high-flow conditions. The voltage uniformity coefficient can accurately indicate the voltage distribution uniformity. This study provides guidance for the design of high-efficiency thermoelectric generators.

Experimental study on thermoelectric power generation based on cryogenic liquid cold energy

Minghui Ge et al.

Summary: This study designed and built a thermoelectric power generation system for cold energy. The experimental results showed that the temperature difference between the hot and cold ends increased in the liquid-phase and two-phase regions, but decreased and then increased in the gas-phase region. The poor heat transfer capacity at the hot end of the generator restricted the improvement of the temperature difference at the hot and cold ends.

Numerical investigation on the dynamic response characteristics of a thermoelectric generator module under transient temperature excitations

Ding Luo et al.

Summary: This work presents a three-dimensional transient numerical model of a thermoelectric generator module considering temperature-dependent properties and the topological connection of load resistance to study its dynamic response characteristics. The study compares and analyzes dynamic output power and conversion efficiency under steady and different transient temperature excitations, revealing that temperature rate influences the time delay in response and the stability of thermal responses. The dynamic response characteristic of output power is found to be synchronous with conversion efficiency, and periodic temperature excitation can amplify output power while maintaining steady-state conversion efficiency.
