Short-Term Resilience of Soil Microbial Communities and Functions Following Severe Environmental Changes

Stefano Mocali et al.

Summary: Soil microorganisms play a key role in soil biochemical processes, but their resilience after extreme environmental change is largely unknown. This study investigated the structural and functional responses of microbial communities during recolonization of heat-sterilized forest soils. The results showed rapid changes in enzymatic activity, microbial structure, and catabolic activity during the incubation period. The physicochemical properties of the original soils influenced soil functional diversity, and reinoculation of sterilized soils had a greater impact on bacterial communities than fungal communities.

Paenibacillus terrae PY8 controls Botrytis cinerea and modifies the endophytic microbial community of the medicinal plant, Paris polyphylla

Tao Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, a biocontrol agent, Paenibacillus terrae PY8, was isolated from the endophytic microbial community of Paris polyphylla. PY8 significantly reduced gray mold infections by Botrytis cinerea and increased the yield and bioactive component content of P. polyphylla. The application of PY8 also had a positive impact on the endophytic microbial community of P. polyphylla by decreasing the abundance of potential plant pathogenic fungi.

Mechanistic Insights of Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria Mediated Drought and Salt Stress Tolerance in Plants for Sustainable Agriculture

Anmol Gupta et al.

Summary: Climate change has devastating effects on plant growth and yield. However, plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) have the ability to combat drought and salinity stress, enhancing crop productivity and contributing to food security. PGPB promotes plant growth through various mechanisms and counteracts oxidative stress, providing osmotic balance and maintaining ion homeostasis.

Seed coating by biofertilizer containing spores of Bacillus pumilus TUAT1 strain enhanced initial growth of Oryza sativa L.

Shin-ichiro Agake et al.

Summary: This study found that the use of the biofertilizer Kikuichi containing Bacillus pumilus TUAT1 spores, combined with coating materials such as iron and molybdenum, can promote rice growth in a direct-seeding system. The optimal timing for application is before sprouting, and the amount applied affects the growth outcome. Double coating with Benmoly has a positive effect on rice growth.
