An effective nano drug delivery and combination therapy for the treatment of Tuberculosis

Mojgan Sheikhpour et al.

Summary: Drug resistance in tuberculosis is a serious threat, and new drug combinations and targeted drug delivery methods are needed. Fluoxetine, an antidepressant, has potential in treating bacterial infections. The conjugated nanofluid of isoniazid and fluoxetine has shown significant effects against tuberculosis strains and can reduce drug dosage.

Photoreactive Coating Material as an Effective and Durable Antimicrobial Composite in Reducing Bacterial Load on Surfaces in Livestock

Adam Kerek et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the significant antibacterial effect of a polymer-based composite layer containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide against animal-origin Escherichia coli. The efficacy of the coating was not affected by different light intensities and distances. However, the presence of organic contaminants reduced the antibacterial potential of the coating.

Antimicrobial and anti-adhesive properties of carbon nanotube-based surfaces for medical applications: a systematic review

Rita Teixeira-Santos et al.

Summary: The study found that surfaces containing modified CNTs, especially CNTs conjugated with different polymers, exhibited strong antimicrobial and anti-adhesive properties, protecting cells from protein adsorption. However, due to the unresolved toxicity of CNTs on the human body, they cannot yet compete with traditional strategies in fighting biofilms. This review may be helpful for the development of new engineered medical surfaces.

Summary: In this study, a new nano drug was prepared and evaluated, showing significant lethal effects on lung cancer cells while being non-toxic to normal cells. The nano-drug was able to induce apoptosis in lung cancer cells at a lower dose and may be a promising treatment for lung cancer. Additional studies on animal models are currently underway.

In Vitro Evaluation of DSPE-PEG (5000) Amine SWCNT Toxicity and Efficacy as a Novel Nanovector Candidate in Photothermal Therapy by Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Naghmeh Hadidi et al.

Summary: The study conjugated DSPE-PEG (5000) amine with SWCNTs to reduce their toxicity, and toxicity studies on lung, liver, and ovarian cancer cell lines suggested that DSPE-PEG (5000) amine SWCNTs might be biocompatible photothermal nanocarriers in PTT. The research also found that changes in DSPE-PEG (5000) amine SWCNT concentration and laser fluence could impact the apoptosis/necrosis of cells.
