Plant growth-promoting and antibacterial activities of cultivable bacteria alive in tobacco field against Ralstonia solanacearum

Wenfang Yuan et al.

Summary: Investigation of the diversity of cultivable bacteria in tobacco fields revealed a wide range of bacterial strains, including some with plant growth-promoting attributes and strong antibacterial activity against R. solanacearum. Bacillus strains, both individually and in consortia, effectively inhibited bacterial wilt in field experiments. Knocking out core genes in B. vallismortis SSB-10 revealed that Difficidin, a secondary metabolite, plays a key role in inhibiting R. solanacearum.

Bacillaene Mediates the Inhibitory Effect of Bacillus subtilis on Campylobacter jejuni Biofilms

A. Erega et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the natural isolate Bacillus subtilis PS-216 has the potential to inhibit Campylobacter jejuni biofilm formation and adhesion to abiotic surfaces, as well as disrupt preestablished C. jejuni biofilms. These findings are important for the development of novel applications of B. subtilis in animal production, reducing antibiotic use, and increasing productivity in animal breeding.

Community Analysis-based Screening of Plant Growth-promoting Bacteria for Sugar Beet

Kazuyuki Okazaki et al.

Summary: The study showed distinct differences in bacterial community structures between above-ground and below-ground tissues of sugar beet, with above-ground tissues being more tightly clustered. By analyzing 16S rRNA gene sequence data of clone libraries and isolate collections, 44 potential plant growth-promoting bacteria were identified, with eight isolates demonstrating growth-promoting effects on sugar beet seedlings in inoculation tests. Seven genera were newly identified as PGPBs for sugar beet at the genus level, extending the potential for developing novel biofertilizers.
