Molecular differentiation of Panax notoginseng grown under different conditions by internal extractive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and multivariate analysis

Xiaoping Zhang et al.

Summary: A method based on internal extractive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (iEESI-MS) was developed to characterize chemical components of Panax notoginseng samples grown under different conditions, allowing for rapid molecular characterization and classification of Panax notoginseng. The study identified key characteristic indicators, such as sucrose content, which can be used to discriminate origin, commercial specifications, and cultivation conditions of Panax notoginseng samples. This method shows potential for quality assessment of traditional herbal medicines and pharmaceutical and clinical analysis.

High throughput online sequential extraction of natural rare earth elements and determination by mass spectrometry

Jiaquan Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, rapid fractionation analysis of 15 REEs and accompanying metals in ore samples was achieved within 1 h using ICP-MS with a homemade device for online sequential solvent extraction. The identified five fractionations for REEs occurrences offer chemical insights on the formation mechanism of REEs ores and guidance for their exploitation and separation. Compared to conventional methods, this approach significantly shortened the analysis time and reduced sample consumption, providing a useful platform for rapid quantitative fractionation analysis of REEs in complexed samples.
