Hydroxytyrosol oleate: A promising neuroprotective nanocarrier delivery system of oleuropein and derivatives

Monica Nardi et al.

Summary: Olive phenols (OPs) are powerful antioxidants with various bioactivities and health benefits. Consumption of olive oil has been shown to reduce the risk of different diseases, especially certain malignant tumors. However, the low absorption rate of OPs limits their bioactivity. Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) provide a promising solution by improving drug stability and the ability to incorporate lipophilic and hydrophilic drugs. This study focused on using hydroxytyrosol oleate (HtyOle) and HtyOle-based SLNs to improve the delivery and antioxidant activity of OPs.

Harnessing reactive oxygen/nitrogen species and inflammation: Nanodrugs for liver injury

Min Liu et al.

Summary: 12% of the global population suffers from liver disease, caused by liver injury involving reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS) and inflammation. Traditional antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs have limited effects on liver injury. Nanodrugs, with their unique structural features, have shown potential in targeting the liver and treating liver disease by eliminating RONS and controlling inflammation.

Compartmentalized chitooligosaccharide/ferritin particles for controlled co-encapsulation of curcumin and rutin

Hai Chen et al.

Summary: This study reports a two-step fabrication method for chitooligosaccharide/ferritin (COS/Fn) particles with compartmentalized cavities, formed by the self-assembly of ferritin nanocages and COS. The COS/Fn particles can simultaneously encapsulate different compounds in a compartmentalized manner and the loading ratio can be easily controlled. Moreover, they exhibit excellent thermal protection for the encapsulated cargo.

PLGA Nanoparticles Grafted with Hyaluronic Acid to Improve Site-Specificity and Drug Dose Delivery in Osteoarthritis Nanotherapy

Luana Zerrillo et al.

Summary: This study developed new poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) surfaces decorated with hyaluronic acid (HA) to enhance targeted drug specificity to the osteoarthritic knee joint. The PLGA NPs grafted to sodium hyaluronate showed increased binding to cartilage cells and tissue, and enhanced accumulation at the target site. This study presents a safe drug-delivery system with improved receptor specificity, providing an advantageous alternative to current nanotherapies.

Development of polyoxyethylene (2) oleyl ether-gliadin nanoparticles: Characterization and in vitro cytotoxicity

Silvia Voci et al.

Summary: Natural polymers, such as wheat gliadin, have been investigated for their potential to deliver active compounds due to their biocompatibility and low cost. In this study, gliadin nanoparticles were stabilized using an oleyl ether-based emulsifier, resulting in spherical nanosystems with a narrow size distribution. The nanosystems showed promise in retaining and releasing both hydrophilic and lipophilic model compounds in a controlled manner, making them suitable carriers for various active compounds.
