Ameliorating high-fat diet-induced sperm and testicular oxidative damage by micronutrient-based antioxidant intervention in rats

Md Mustahsan Billah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of an antioxidant-based micronutrient supplement on sperm and testicular oxidative damage in male rats fed a high-fat diet. The results suggest that the supplement may reduce oxidative damage in sperm and testis and improve testicular antioxidant capacity.

Effects of Tolerance-Induced Preconditioning on Mitochondrial Biogenesis in undifferentiated and Differentiated Neuronal Cells

Jagdeep K. Sandhu et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial biogenesis occurs during neuronal differentiation, leading to improved cellular energy status and enhanced tolerance to oxidative stress, casting doubt on the potential for additional enhancement of this phenomenon for neuroprotection.

Nicotinamide Ameliorates Amyloid Beta-Induced Oxidative Stress-Mediated Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration in Adult Mouse Brain

Inayat Ur Rehman et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a prevalent age-related neurodegenerative disease characterized by the accumulation of amyloid beta A beta(1-42) and tau hyperphosphorylation in the brain. Nicotinamide (NAM) Vitamin B3 has shown neuroprotective effects against A beta(1-42)-induced neurotoxicity by ameliorating neuronal inflammation and apoptosis. This study suggests that NAM may be a potential preventive and therapeutic candidate for A beta(1-42)-induced neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and neurotoxicity.

1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 protects retinal ganglion cells in glaucomatous mice

Francesca Lazzara et al.

Summary: The study found that treatment with 1,25(OH)(2)D-3 can improve retinal function in age-related glaucomatous mice, reduce retinal ganglion cell death, and decrease the expression of inflammatory cytokines. This may help alleviate retinal damage in glaucoma patients and merits further clinical evaluation for the treatment of optic neuropathies.

Raymond Chong et al.

Summary: Individuals with Parkinson's disease have lower levels of vitamin B3, which may contribute to symptoms such as fatigue, sleep dysfunction, and mood changes. Supplementing with low-dose niacin can improve motor scores, quality of life, and slow disease progression.

Yao-Tseng Wen et al.

Summary: The study showed that treatment with E212 can increase the superoxide dismutase activity of the retina, reduce reactive oxygen species produced by RGCs, prevent disruption of the blood-retinal barrier, improve visual function and RGC density, and decrease RGC apoptosis and macrophage infiltration.
