Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review of proteomic studies

Jessica Diniz Pereira et al.

Summary: The study identified common characteristics between T2DM and AD, and found that peripheral proteomic biomarkers could be used to identify patients with these two diseases and provide a workflow for screening T2DM patients at risk for developing AD.

Platelet biomarkers for a descending cognitive function: A proteomic approach

Haitao Yu et al.

Summary: Memory loss is the most common clinical sign in Alzheimer's disease, and searching for peripheral biomarkers to predict cognitive decline is promising for early diagnosis. Platelets share similarities to neuron biology and may serve as a peripheral matrix for biomarkers of neurological disorders. The study identified 360 differential proteins in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease patients, with potential for early screening of AD using a combination of decreased platelet proteins.

Harnessing the Physiological Functions of Cellular Prion Protein in the Kidneys: Applications for Treating Renal Diseases

Sungtae Yoon et al.

Summary: Cellular prion protein (PrP) in the kidney plays important physiological roles, such as filtration in renal tissues, functioning in signaling pathways, and influencing kidney iron uptake. Studies have found that urinary prion protein can serve as a diagnostic biomarker for kidney diseases and may contribute to innovative therapeutic strategies for renal diseases.
