A solid ultrasonic coupling membrane for superficial vascular ultrasonography

Di Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of a new solid ultrasonic membrane to improve the imaging of superficial vessels. A hydrogel membrane was generated and it efficiently forms at high temperature, allowing for high resolution intravascular ultrasound images.

Synchronization of RF Data in Ultrasound Open Platforms (UOPs) for High-Accuracy and High-Resolution Photoacoustic Tomography Using the Scissors Programming Method

Lei Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, we propose a method called "Scissors" which can add or remove fixed delays on radio frequency data through programming, aiming to solve the common issue of delays between data acquisition and light pulse in photoacoustic imaging. This method is compatible with various setups and can be adjusted in real-time without the need for additional hardware. By using Scissors, we successfully improve the imaging quality and achieve significant results in human experiments.

Photoacoustic imaging of posterior periodontal pocket using a commercial hockey-stick transducer

Lei Fu et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel photoacoustic imaging system for imaging posterior periodontal pockets. By using a hockey-stick-style transducer integrated with fibers and cuttlefish ink as the contrast agent, the pocket depth of swine teeth was measured and compared with the conventional periodontal probing method. The results demonstrated that the photoacoustic imaging system had good reproducibility and could image upper and posterior teeth that regular transducers could not reach.

Localization of cementoenamel junction in intraoral ultrasonographs with machine learning

Kim-Cuong T. Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the feasibility of using machine learning methodology to localize CEJ in ultrasound images with clinically acceptable accuracy and reliability. The likelihood-weighted ground truth by combining multiple labels by clinical experts compared favorably with the predictions by the best deep CNN approach. The machine learning-measured CEJ-alveolar bone crest distances correlated strongly with manual clinical labeling and showed good agreement within a range of 0.68 to 0.57 mm.
