Prediction and optimization of the yield stress of material extrusion specimens made of ABS, using numerical simulation and experimental tests

Carmita Camposeco-Negrete et al.

Summary: The study focuses on optimizing the process parameters to enhance the yield strength of printed ABS specimens. By conducting experimental runs and numerical simulations, the effects of process parameters and their optimal values are estimated. The difference between physical and simulated yield stress values is below 9% for 75% of the experimental runs, indicating that Digimat's simulations provide valuable insights into material extrusion but may yield slightly lower stress values than experimental methods.

Fracture behavior of 3D printed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites

Denizhan Yavas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the inter-layer and cross-layer fracture behavior of 3D printed short CFRP composites through experimental and numerical methods. The cross-layer fracture toughness was found to be three-fold of the inter-layer counterparts. Fracture surface morphology and crack-tip strain field demonstrated different toughening mechanisms for cross-layer and inter-layer fractures.
