Mechanism investigation for the influence of laser power on droplet transfer behaviors in laser-MIG hybrid welding

Fuyun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of laser power on droplet transfer in laser-MIG hybrid welding. The results indicate that increasing laser power can improve the transfer frequency, but it decreases once the power exceeds a critical value. Considering factors such as laser source characteristics, materials, laser focusing distance, and laser-arc distance, these findings provide guidance for optimizing welding processes, improving weld quality, and preventing spatters.

Effect of Hot Isostatic Pressing and heat treatments on porosity of Wire Arc Additive Manufactured Al 2319

N. Mclean et al.

Summary: By quantitatively studying the extent of pore regrowth during post-HIP solution treatment and ageing of Al 2319 produced by Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), it was found that large closed pores mostly remained closed during subsequent heat treatment, but the frequency of fine gas porosity increased almost three-fold. However, the overall porosity distribution after post-HIP heat treatment was still up to 95% lower than in the original as-built condition, indicating that HIP + heat treatments are still a viable pathway for defect reduction in industrial products.

Influence of high-melting particle implantation on microstructure of Al alloy thin-wall components fabricated by droplet plus arc additive manufacturing

Pengfei He et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel droplet + arc additive manufacturing technique is proposed for fabricating particle-reinforced Al matrix composites parts. Experimental results show that the interface pore defects are affected by the wettability between particle and liquid Al matrix. Additionally, the transition of grain size can be achieved by particle implantation.

Characteristics of bypass coupling twin-wire indirect arc welding with high-speed welding mode

Dongting Wu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the welding characteristics of bypass coupling twin-wire indirect arc welding (BC-TWIAW) with high-speed welding mode. The alternating burning of direct and indirect arcs could significantly reduce the heat input into the workpiece. Different droplet transfer patterns were observed depending on the feeding speed of the cathode wire.

Enhancing the properties of aluminum alloys fabricated using wire plus arc additive manufacturing technique-A review

M. M. Tawfik et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in wire thorn arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) of aluminum components offer unique opportunities for enhancing their properties. Studies have focused on controlling manufacturing parameters, wire properties, arc mode, and post-process treatment to regulate microstructure and mechanical characteristics of fabricated aluminum parts. The paper reviews various attempts to enhance the mechanical properties of aluminum components fabricated with WAAM, as well as challenges faced in applying WAAM to aluminum alloys. The main goal is to gain a detailed understanding of the mechanical characteristics of deposited aluminum components under different conditions.

Hot deformation induced microstructural evolution in local-heterogeneous wire plus arc additive manufactured 2219 Al alloy

Yinghui Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of a wire + arc additive manufactured (WAAMed) 2219 Al alloy. The local-heterogeneous microstructure showed an alternated distribution of equiaxed and columnar grains, with 0' phase precipitating near grain boundaries. Analysis revealed a higher stress resistance during hot deformation compared to traditional 2219 Al alloys, with dynamic recrystallization impacting grain boundaries and hardness.
