Metabarcoding of zooplankton diversity within the Chukchi Borderland, Arctic Ocean: improved resolution from multi-gene markers and region-specific DNA databases

Jennifer M. Questel et al.

Summary: DNA-based analyses, particularly metabarcoding, have been used to characterize the metazoan biodiversity in marine ecosystems. The 18S rRNA gene, despite its conservative nature, was utilized along with a portion of the COI gene to identify 6 genera and 49 species of copepods in the specific geographic region of interest, highlighting the importance of region-specific DNA reference databases for accurate taxonomic classification and biodiversity assessment.
