Hydrothermally-Derived Silver-Decorated Nanocrystalline Anatase Photocatalyst for Reactive Violet 2 Photodegradation

Stanislav Kurajica et al.

Summary: A photocatalyst consisting of Ag nanoparticles dispersed on an anatase matrix was synthesized using a hydrothermal method without thermal treatment. Characterization techniques including SEM, XRD, HRTEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and adsorption-desorption isotherms were used to study the material. The catalyst exhibited efficient photodegradation of RV2 under UVA and visible light irradiation due to the active {100} crystal surface of anatase nanoparticles and the non-uniform dispersion of silver nanoparticles.

Theoretical and experimental studies on photocatalytic removal of methylene blue (MetB) from aqueous solution using oyster shell synthesized CaO nanoparticles (CaONP-O)

Nnabuk Okon Eddy et al.

Summary: The use of sol-gel synthesized calcium oxide nanoparticles as catalyst can effectively degrade dyes, with a removal efficiency of 98%. The degradation efficiency is influenced by time, initial dye concentration, catalyst load, pH, and ionic strength. The study found that the degradation kinetics best fit the Langmuir-Hinshelwood, first order, and pseudo first-order models. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that the degradation involved adsorption, deformation/degradation, and desorption processes.

Nnabuk Okon Eddy et al.

Summary: In this study, mesoporous material developed from orange mesocarp was characterized and used for the adsorption removal of trypan blue dye. The material exhibited high BET surface area and pore volume, and achieved a removal efficiency of 97.10%. Kinetic and isotherm models indicated a chemisorption mechanism, and FTIR analysis confirmed the adsorption sites on the material surface. The study provides valuable information for the efficient recovery of resources from waste materials and the remediation of dye contaminated water.

Synthesis and characterization of calcium oxide nanoparticles for CO2 capture

Ei Ei Khine et al.

Summary: This study reports a precipitation method for the preparation of calcium oxide nanoparticles and characterizes them in various aspects. It is found that the calcination of Ca(OH)2 in vacuum occurs at a faster rate/lower temperature compared to calcination in air, and the CaO nanoparticles spontaneously transform into CaCO3 when kept at room temperature in air. Additionally, when the CaO nanoparticles are kept in air at 100-200 degrees C, they mainly capture water vapor instead of carbon dioxide.

Current Trends in the Utilization of Photolysis and Photocatalysis Treatment Processes for the Remediation of Dye Wastewater: A Short Review

S. M. Anisuzzaman et al.

Summary: The use of various dyes in industries such as textiles and food has led to increased demand and the generation of dye-containing wastewater. Conventional water treatment methods transfer pollutants to other phases, creating concentrated deposits. The advanced oxidation process, specifically photocatalysis, has emerged as an effective method for treating such wastewater by generating highly reactive hydroxyl radicals to destructively mineralize organic pollutants.
