Distribution and characterization of Colletotrichum species associated with Citrus anthracnose in eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey

Aysun Uysal et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterized Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and C. karsti associated with citrus anthracnose in Turkey. The researchers conducted surveys in the citrus production area of the Eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey and obtained a total of 194 Colletotrichum strains from different citrus cultivars and plant tissues. Pathogenicity trials showed that both species were able to colonise different parts of citrus plants and cause symptoms similar to those observed in the field. This is the most comprehensive study on the identification and characterization of these fungi in Turkey.
