Complexation of chlorogenic acid enhances the antiproliferative effect of lactoferrin to colon cancer cells

Yutong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that chlorogenic acid (CGA) can stabilize lactoferrin (LF) solution and form a relatively stable complex with LF. The complex has a synergistic anti-proliferative effect on colorectal cancer cells by arresting the cell cycle.

Anticancer activities of TCM and their active components against tumor metastasis

Kailong Wang et al.

Summary: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has the characteristics of multiple targets, slight side effects and good therapeutic effects. Inhibiting autophagy and apoptosis of tumor cells, angiogenesis and EMT outside the tumor are key factors in blocking tumor metastasis.

Traditional Chinese medicine and lung cancer-From theory to practice

Zhang Li et al.

Summary: With continuous breakthroughs in molecular biology and biochemistry, significant progress has been made in the treatment of lung cancer, particularly with standard treatments improving patient prognosis and immunotherapy providing positive outcomes. In contrast, traditional Chinese medicine has limited research in the field of lung cancer, but has shown progress in non-small cell lung cancer.

On a Variational Definition for the Jensen-Shannon Symmetrization of Distances Based on the Information Radius

Frank Nielsen

Summary: The paper generalizes the Jensen-Shannon divergence and diversity index using a variational definition with respect to a generic mean, extending the concept of Sibson's information radius. The variational definition applies to arbitrary distances and provides a new way of defining Jensen-Shannon symmetrization of distances, as well as introducing relative Jensen-Shannon divergences for prescribed families of probability measures. Applications of these variational Jensen-Shannon divergences to clustering and quantization tasks of probability measures, including statistical mixtures, are also discussed.

Cancer statistics for the year 2020: An overview

Jacques Ferlay et al.

Summary: The study briefly reviews the methods and data sources used in compiling the IARC GLOBOCAN cancer statistics for 2020 and summarizes the main results. It estimated that there were nearly 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10 million cancer deaths worldwide in 2020, with the most commonly diagnosed cancers being female breast cancer and lung cancer, and the most common causes of cancer death being lung cancer and liver cancer.

Effect of the administration of probiotics on the fecal microbiota of adult individuals

Feiyan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that the effects of probiotic supplementation on the composition of fecal microbiota in healthy adults can lead to different responses in different enterotypes. The community structure was significantly influenced in the B enterotype, while no significant changes were observed in the P enterotype.
