Comparison of Protectivity and Safety of Two Vaccines against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in a Field Study

Peter Hoelzen et al.

Summary: This study compared two licensed A. pleuropneumoniae vaccines in pigs, with results showing that the vaccine containing ApxI-III toxoids was more effective in preventing pulmonary lesions associated with A. pleuropneumoniae infection. Mortality and antimicrobial medication were significantly lower in the vaccine group compared to the control group.

Proposal of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serovar 19, and reformulation of previous multiplex PCRs for capsule-specific typing of all known serovars

Oliver W. Stringer et al.

Summary: Two isolates of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, biovar 1, were identified from swine on different continents. Both isolates have a novel type II capsule locus and differ in their O-Ag loci. PCR has been expanded for definitive detection of specific serovars.

Application of the MISTEACHING(S) disease susceptibility framework to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae to identify research gaps: an exemplar of a veterinary pathogen

Paul R. Langford et al.

Summary: The MISTEACHING framework, originally used for human pathogens, has been shown to be applicable to veterinary pathogens as well, leading to the formation of MISTEACHINGS. This framework can help identify research gaps and formulate hypotheses for the study of various pathogens, encouraging further research in the field.
