The gut microbiome and antibiotic resistome of chronic diarrhea rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatto) and its similarity to the human gut microbiome

Shengzhi Yang et al.

Summary: The gut microbiome and resistome of chronic diarrhea rhesus macaques (RMs) were found to differ significantly from asymptomatic individuals. There was a depletion of Lactobacillus spp. and an increase in mucin-degrading bacteria and opportunistic pathogens in the guts of chronic diarrhea RMs. The metabolic pathways of chronic diarrhea RMs were enriched in aerobactin biosynthesis, while those of asymptomatic RMs were enriched in the production of short-chain fatty acids.

Gut Ruminococcaceae levels at baseline correlate with risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea

Xiaoqiong Gu et al.

Summary: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is a common issue in patients receiving antibiotic treatment. Differences in the gut microbiome may influence the development of AAD. Lower levels of gut Ruminococcaceae and decreased microbial diversity may be associated with the occurrence of AAD. The levels of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii at baseline can predict the likelihood of AAD.

Effect of Different Dietary Regimes on the Gut Microbiota and Fecal Metabolites of Pere David's Deer

Junai Zhen et al.

Summary: This study explored the differences in gut microbiota and metabolic pathways of Pere David's deer under different dietary regimes through analysis of feces. The results showed that the gut microbiota diversity was lower under the combination diet, and the abundance of certain phyla was also lower compared to the silage diet. Additionally, the combination diet had a greater effect on the metabolism of Pere David's deer. These findings provide important information for the conservation of Pere David's deer.

Metabolic Influences of Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis on Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Salma Sultan et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases are chronic medical disorders characterized by recurrent gastrointestinal inflammation, with the main etiology being the dysregulation of gut microbiota and host immune system. The dysbiosis of gut microbiota may contribute to inflammation by affecting the immune system or metabolic pathways, while host metabolic defectiveness also adds to the risk of disease progression. Therapeutic approaches targeting the gut microbiome may hold promise for the management of IBD.
