The disproportionate value of 'weeds' to pollinators and biodiversity

Summary: Agricultural intensification has negative impacts on global biodiversity, and agri-environmental schemes are implemented in the European Union to tackle this issue. However, it is found that agricultural weeds play an important role in supporting pollinators. This study compares the biodiversity associated with harmful weed species and pollinator-targeted plants, and reveals that weeds have higher abundance and diversity of pollinators.
