Day-to-Day Variability of Diurnal Tide in the Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere Driven From Below

Jack C. Wang et al.

Summary: The migrating diurnal tide (DW1) is a dominant wave motion in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere, playing a crucial role in neutral atmosphere and ionosphere coupling. Both observations and models show that the day-to-day variability of DW1 is a persistent and ubiquitous feature, reflecting global-scale changes. The day-to-day variability of the diurnal (1,1) mode is likely driven by variability in the lower atmosphere.

Seasonal Variation Characteristics of Geomagnetic Sq External and Internal Equivalent Current Systems in East-Asia and Oceania Regions

Xiaocan Liu et al.

Summary: Geomagnetic data from 20 observatories in East-Asia and Oceania regions were used to investigate the seasonal variation characteristics of the external and internal Sq current systems by spherical harmonic analysis. The results showed that the local time and intensity of vortices in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres vary significantly in different seasons, and the correlations between internal and external currents display varying patterns across seasons.
