Effect of naproxen on the model lipid membrane formed on the water-chitosan subphase

Kacper Przykaza et al.

Summary: Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used over the counter medications, but can cause serious digestive side effects. This study investigated the effects of chitosan on reducing the undesirable effects of one NSAID, naproxen. The results showed that naproxen altered the mechanical and electrical properties of a model biological membrane, but the addition of chitosan suppressed some of these changes while also modifying the properties of the layer.

Synthesis and characterization of hard copolymer polyurethane/functionalized graphene nanocomposites: Investigation of morphology, thermal stability, and rheological properties

Muayad Albozahid et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) addition on the performance of hard copolymer polyurethane (HCPU). The results show that the addition of GO and rGO enhances the thermal stability of HCPU, reduces crystallinity and microphase separation, and improves thermal and electrical conductivity. Additionally, the interaction between GO and rGO with polyurethane chains plays a significant role in enhancing the morphology, rheological, and thermal properties of HCPU nanocomposites.

Unraveling the Role of Drug-Lipid Interactions in NSAIDs-Induced Cardiotoxicity

Catarina Pereira-Leite et al.

Summary: The study aimed to unravel the role of drug-lipid interactions in NSAIDs-induced cardiotoxicity, finding that NSAIDs can permeabilize membrane models and alter their structure, depending on the lipid composition, drug structure, and drug:lipid molar ratio tested. This suggests that NSAIDs-lipid interactions at the mitochondrial level may be a key step in NSAIDs-induced cardiotoxicity mechanisms.

Dynamics and local environment of an aromatic counterion bound to di-chain cationic surfactant bilayers studied by avoided level crossing muon spin resonance: evidence for counterion condensation

Iain McKenzie et al.

Summary: The study found that 246TMB(-) undergoes anisotropic motion in the liquid crystal phase and is located at the oil-water interface rather than within the bilayer. As temperature increases, the interaction between 246TMB(-) and the bilayer decreases, while the amplitude of wobbling-in-a-cone motion increases.

Aescin - a natural soap for the formation of lipid nanodiscs with tunable size

Ramsia Geisler et al.

Summary: The study investigates the self-assembly and morphological transition of nm-sized discoidal lipid nanoparticles composed of beta-aescin and the phospholipid DMPC. The transition of the lipid nanoparticles is mainly triggered by the phase state change of the phospholipid, resulting in different final morphologies depending on the phospholipid-to-saponin ratio and temperature. Techniques like SAXS, TEM, and FFEM are used to analyze the nano-particles at different length scales, with models applied to evaluate possible geometries and molecular mixing.
