Risk factors for infection and mortality caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae : A large multicentre case-control and cohort study

Tao Lou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) infection and provide clinicians with better methods to identify the infection at an early stage. The results showed that longer hospital stay, stay in the intensive care unit, previous exposure to antibacterial agents, invasive procedures, use of intravascular catheters, and other factors were risk factors for CRKP infection. Carbapenem exposure was found to be a common predictor for different types of CRKP infection. The 28-day crude mortality of CRKP infection was independently associated with sex, admitted unit, and type of infection.

Molecular epidemiology and population genomics of tet(X4), blaNDM or mcr-1 positive Escherichia coli from migratory birds in southeast coast of China

Wenhui Zhang et al.

Summary: Migratory birds are important transmission vectors for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) globally. This study identified and characterized isolates harboring tet(X4), blaNDM or mcr-1 from migratory birds. The isolates were found to be multidrug-resistant bacteria and most plasmids carrying these resistance genes were conjugative.
