Primary cardiac sarcomas: Treatment strategies

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the surgical outcomes of 122 patients with primary cardiac sarcoma. The results showed that the survival rate of cardiac sarcoma patients gradually decreased within 5 years, and there was no significant difference in mortality between different time periods. This suggests that cardiac sarcoma is a systemic disease, and current treatment methods have not significantly improved patient survival.

Although survival rates improved over time for African American patients, overall there were no significant racial differences in survival outcomes. Age at diagnosis, tumor type, disease stage, and chemotherapy were identified as key predictors of survival outcomes.

The etiology of this disparity may be related to reduced access to supportive care or post-protocol therapy and/or differences in health status not reflected by protocol selection criteria.

Temporal trends and socioeconomic differences in treatment and mortality following a diagnosis of aortic stenosis

Summary: The study found that since 2000, the risk of receiving AVR within the first year after diagnosis of aortic stenosis has decreased, but the mortality risk for patients not receiving AVR has also decreased. Patients with lower educational levels have higher risks in AVR treatment rate, mortality rate after AVR, and mortality rate in patients not receiving AVR.
