Long non-coding RNA DCST1-AS1/hsa-miR-582-5p/HMGB1 axis regulates colorectal cancer progression

Long Huang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the overexpression of lncRNA DCST1-AS1 in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues and cell lines, which is associated with poor prognosis in CRC patients. Functional experiments confirm the role of lncRNA DCST1-AS1 in promoting malignant phenotypes of CRC cells. Furthermore, the study identifies the binding sites between lncRNA DCST1-AS1 and hsa-miR-582-5p, as well as between hsa-miR-582-5p and High Mobility Group Box 1 (HMGB1), which play a crucial role in modulating the aggressiveness of CRC cells.

Extracellular vesicles in obesity and its associated inflammation

Vijay Kumar et al.

Summary: Obesity is associated with chronic inflammation, which can increase the risk of autoimmune diseases by reducing regulatory T cell numbers and promoting pro-inflammatory immune responses. Understanding these immunological changes is crucial for developing therapies to suppress autoimmune diseases and other immunological conditions.

Influence of Obesity in the miRNome: miR-4454, a Key Regulator of Insulin Response Via Splicing Modulation in Prostate

Vicente Herrero-Aguayo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that miR-4454 levels were higher in plasma of obese individuals and associated with insulin resistance, highlighting its potential as a target for obesity-related interventions. miR-4454 was found to be highly expressed in prostate and liver tissues, regulated by insulin, and may impair cellular response to insulin, particularly in prostate gland, through modulation of the splicing process.

Therapeutic potential of camel milk exosomes against HepaRG cells with potent apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenesis effects for colostrum exosomes

Azza M. El-kattawy et al.

Summary: Camel milk exosomes derived from colostrum have a more potent anti-cancer effect on liver cancer cells HepaRG compared to those derived from early, mid, and late lactation periods, possibly through induction of apoptosis and inhibition of inflammation and angiogenesis.

Current pharmacological treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma

Sergio Munoz-Martinez et al.

Summary: The landscape of hepatocellular carcinoma treatment has changed significantly since the introduction of sorafenib in 2007. Currently, the first-line treatment involves the combination of atezolizumab plus bevacizumab, with several approved second-line options for patients who have received sorafenib. This shift in treatment options has led to a need for redefining clinical decision-making and considering new endpoints in clinical trial designs.

Quantitative analysis of differentially expressed milk fat globule membrane proteins between donkey and bovine colostrum based on high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry proteomics

Mohan Li et al.

Summary: This study used quantitative proteomics to analyze milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins in donkey colostrum (DC) and bovine colostrum (BC). A total of 179 (DC) and 195 (BC) MFGM proteins were identified, with 71 shared, 108 DC-specific, and 124 BC-specific proteins. Gene ontology analysis showed enrichment in cellular components and metabolic pathways, with 51 differentially expressed MFGM proteins identified.

Anticancer, antiplatelet, gastroprotective and hepatoprotective effects of camel urine: A scoping review

Norizam Salamt et al.

Summary: Studies have shown the therapeutic potential of camel urine in treating cancer, liver toxicity, gastric ulcers, and as an antiplatelet agent, with significant positive effects demonstrated. While camel urine shows promising therapeutic potential in treating human diseases, especially cancer, standardized dosage and potential side effects need to be determined before it can be offered as an alternative treatment.

The Evolving Role of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treatment

Patrizia Leone et al.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma is a common and deadly cancer around the world. Traditional treatments like surgery, radiotherapy, and targeted therapies have been used, but due to the immune suppressive nature of HCC, immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors has shown great promise in recent clinical studies.

MicroRNA-30a-3p acts as a tumor suppressor in MHCC-97H hepatocellular carcinoma cells by targeting COX-

XueMei Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was observed that the expression of microRNA-30a-3p (miR-30a-3p) was decreased in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines compared to normal liver cell lines. Increasing miR-30a-3p levels inhibited cell growth, migration, and invasion of MHCC-97H cells, and also suppressed tumor growth in mice. Additionally, using a COX-2 inhibitor, celecoxib, enhanced the anti-metastatic role of miR-30a-3p in MHCC-97H cells.

Summary: This study investigated the use of in vivo bioluminescence imaging (BLI) to examine the role of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in ethanol-induced corneal damage and healing in mice. The results showed that ethanol treatment elevated MMP-2/9 activity, which was inhibited by eye drops containing hyaluronic acid and serum.

ZEB1 enhances Warburg effect to facilitate tumorigenesis and metastasis of HCC by transcriptionally activating PFKM

Yanming Zhou et al.

Summary: Research revealed that ZEB1 can promote the development and metastasis of HCC by transcriptionally upregulating the muscle isoform of phosphofructokinase-1 (PFKM). The transcriptional activity of ZEB1 on PFKM is crucial, suggesting that inhibition of ZEB1 towards PFKM may serve as a potential therapeutic strategy for HCC.
