Placental hypoplasia and maternal organic vascular disorder in pregnant women with gestational hypertension and preeclampsia

Yuki Owaki et al.

Summary: This study explored the etiology and pathology of preeclampsia (PE) and gestational hypertension (GH). Severe placental hypoxic changes and oxidative DNA damage were found in patients with PE, along with increased antiangiogenic factors. Maternal organic vascular disorder was more severe in GH patients compared to PE patients, as assessed by IMT.

Conditioned medium from primary cytotrophoblasts, primary placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells, or sub-cultured placental tissue promoted HUVEC angiogenesis in vitro

Haiying Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that conditioned medium (CM) obtained from placental cells or tissue contained proangiogenic factors that promoted HUVEC angiogenesis in vitro. Placental cells from early pregnancy played a more significant role in promoting HUVEC angiogenesis, and CM collected at 24h or 48h had the best effect. Among all time points, CM collected from sub-cultured placental tissue at 7 days had the best effect.

Vascular Dysfunction in Preeclampsia

Megan A. Opichka et al.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a life-threatening cardiovascular disorder associated with pregnancy, potentially caused by dysfunction in maternal and placental blood vessels and other factors. Current gaps in knowledge include detailed understanding of its underlying causes and effective treatment options.

Induction of the PPARγ (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor γ)-GCM1 (Glial Cell Missing 1) Syncytialization Axis Reduces sFLT1 (Soluble fms-Like Tyrosine Kinase 1) in the Preeclamptic Placenta

Brooke Armistead et al.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a severe hypertensive disorder of pregnancy caused by placental villi pathology leading to widespread maternal endothelial dysfunction. Modulating trophoblast differentiation pathway through PPAR gamma-GCM1 axis may reduce excessive sFLT1 production and improve clinical outcomes. Pharmacological manipulation of PPAR gamma activity shows potential to rescue the antiangiogenic state of preeclampsia.
