Antioxidant Activity, Metal Chelating Ability and DNA Protective Effect of the Hydroethanolic Extracts of Crocus sativus Stigmas, Tepals and Leaves

Sabir Ouahhoud et al.

Summary: The study investigated the antioxidant activity, metal chelating ability, and genoprotective effect of hydroethanolic extracts from different parts of Crocus sativus. Different parts of the plant showed varying antioxidant and metal chelating capacities. Pretreatment with these extracts significantly protected rat leukocytes from DNA damage.

Crocus sativus L. Stigmas, Tepals, and Leaves Ameliorate Gentamicin-Induced Renal Toxicity: A Biochemical and Histopathological Study

Sabir Ouahhoud et al.

Summary: This study assesses and compares the nephroprotective effects of different parts of Crocus sativus extract on gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The results show that all parts of Crocus sativus exhibit a renoprotective effect, with the tepals showing the most significant reduction in markers of kidney damage.

Hepatoprotective effects of hydroethanolic extracts of Crocus sativus tepals, stigmas and leaves on carbon tetrachloride induced acute liver injury in rats

Sabir Ouahhoud et al.

Summary: The study investigated the hepatoprotective effects of Crocus sativus stigmas, tepals, and leaves on CCl4 induced liver injury in rats. Results showed that stigma and tepal extracts prevented body weight loss, improved liver weight, and protected against liver damage biomarkers. Leaves also reduced liver damage markers significantly. Overall, the results suggest that Crocus sativus extracts have hepatoprotective effects in CCl4 induced liver injury.

The interplay between reactive oxygen species and antioxidants in cancer progression and therapy: a narrative review

Osama Hussein Bekhet et al.

Summary: This study focused on the roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidants in cancer progression and therapy. Cancer is a diverse disease at the cellular level with different causes. High levels of ROS have protumorigenic activities, while antioxidants play a role in maintaining cellular redox balance.
