Combating Complement's Deleterious Effects on Nanomedicine by Conjugating Complement Regulatory Proteins to Nanoparticles

Zhicheng Wang et al.

Summary: Complement opsonization is a major challenge in nanomedicine. Conjugating natural regulators of complement activation (RCAs) to the surface of nanoparticles can decrease complement opsonization and reduce uptake by phagocytes. In vivo experiments in a mouse model show that RCA conjugation can also reduce allergic reactions and improve targeting to endothelial cells.

A wavelength-induced frequency filtering method for fluorescent nanosensors in vivo

Volodymyr B. Koman et al.

Summary: This research introduces a new technique (WIFF) to overcome the limitations of fluorescent nanosensors in vivo. By modulating the excitation wavelength, WIFF improves the signal-to-noise ratio and enables tracking and monitoring of various substances' responses in deep tissues, including drug metabolites. This capability is significant for life sciences research, therapeutics, and medical diagnostics.

Poly(lipoic acid)-Based Nanoparticles as Self-Organized, Biocompatible, and Corona-Free Nanovectors

Jakub W. Trzcinski et al.

Summary: This study describes an innovative approach to produce biocompatible, degradable, and stealth polymeric nanoparticles based on poly(lipoic acid), stabilized by a PEG-ended surfactant. The nanoparticles showed high stability in biological media, minimal protein corona formation in biological fluids, and no acute toxicity in vitro and in vivo. They were also efficiently cleared from the organism and exhibited a preference for short-term accumulation in the heart, making them promising candidates for nanomedicine.
