The Role of Ultrasound in the Evaluation of Inguinal Lymph Nodes in Patients with Vulvar Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Debora Verri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of groin ultrasound in assessing the lymph nodal status in vulvar cancer, finding that ultrasound has high sensitivity and negative predictive value.

Radiotherapy is not indicated in patients with vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and only one occult intracapsular groin node metastasis

Jacobus van der Velden et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with a single intracapsular positive lymph node who did not receive adjuvant radiotherapy, the risk of groin recurrence was low and survival rate was good. Therefore, it is recommended that adjuvant radiotherapy to the groin can be safely omitted to prevent unnecessary toxicity and morbidity.

18F-FDG PET and 18F-FDG PET/CT in Vulvar Cancer A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Elizabeth K. A. Triumbari et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the role of F-18-FDG PET/CT in vulvar cancer patients and found that it has diagnostic value for lymph node staging. Larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these results and evaluate the diagnostic value of standardized semiquantitative analysis compared with qualitative analysis.

Terms, definitions and measurements to describe sonographic features of lymph nodes: consensus opinion from the Vulvar International Tumor Analysis (VITA) group

D. Fischerova et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the use of ultrasound to detect metastases in regional lymph nodes from melanoma, breast cancer, and vulvar cancer in medical centers with high-end ultrasound machines and expert sonologists. There is currently no international consensus on ultrasound assessment of lymph nodes, and the lack of standardized ultrasound nomenclature makes it challenging to compare results and identify reliable ultrasound features to distinguish infiltrated lymph nodes from non-infiltrated ones. The VITA collaborative group provides terms, definitions, and measurements for describing inguinal lymph nodes on ultrasound, setting the foundation for future studies on ultrasound features typical of metastases in lymph nodes and the role of ultrasound in staging vulvar and other malignancies.
