The relationship between endometriosis and diet

Seyma Osmanlioglu et al.

Summary: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by ectopic endometrial implants. Diet may have an important role in the development of endometriosis. Prior studies suggest an inverse relationship between endometriosis and the consumption of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and omega-3 fatty acids, while increased consumption of trans-unsaturated fatty acids and red meat may increase the risk of endometriosis. However, further research is needed to confirm these associations.

JAK2-Mediated Phosphorylation of Stress-Induced Phosphoprotein-1 (STIP1) in Human Cells

Angel Chao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that JAK2-mediated phosphorylation of STIP1 plays a critical role in promoting cell survival and drug resistance in cancer cells. Conversely, interfering with the interaction between STIP1 and JAK2 can lead to decreased cell viability and ultimately cell death. Furthermore, JAK2 and STIP1 expression levels were found to be positively correlated in human ovarian cancer specimens.

Phosphorylation of PFKFB4 by PIM2 promotes anaerobic glycolysis and cell proliferation in endometriosis

Chao Lu et al.

Summary: Endometriosis is a common cause of chronic pelvic pain and infertility in women. Our study reveals that PIM2 mediates the phosphorylation of PFKFB4, promoting glycolysis and cell growth in the progression of endometriosis. This research provides new insights into the reprogramming of glucose metabolism in endometriosis and potential non-contraceptive treatments.

Fasting-mimicking diet blocks triple-negative breast cancer and cancer stem cell escape

Giulia Salvadori et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a fasting-mimicking diet activates starvation escape pathways in TNBC cells and reduces stemness markers in CSCs, leading to decreased cell numbers and improved mouse survival. Additionally, the diet activates different survival/growth pathways in differentiated cancer cells, which can be targeted by drugs to promote tumor regression.

Disturbed progesterone signalling in an advanced preclinical model of endometriosis

Fereshteh Esfandiari et al.

Summary: Human endometriosis organoids were established from biopsies of women with and without endometriosis and showed aberrant expressions of endometriosis-related genes compared to control endometrium organoids. These endometriosis organoids exhibited a decreased response to progesterone, with significant downregulation of Progesterone receptor B (PRB) gene expression. Epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA hypermethylation at the PRB promoter were detected in eutopic but not ectopic organoids, implying other mechanisms like histone modifications and microRNAs may be responsible for PRB downregulation in ectopic organoids. Endometriosis organoids serve as valuable preclinical models for investigating the molecular mechanisms of endometriosis-associated progesterone resistance.
