The role of thyroid function in female and male infertility: a narrative review

R. Mazzilli et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of the impact of impaired thyroid function on male and female fertility. In females, thyroid dysfunction is detrimental to pregnancy and fetal outcomes, and the reference range of TSH has recently become a topic of debate. The impact of thyroid function on the male reproductive system is still unclear, but it may play a role in modulating Sertoli and Leydig cells function and spermatogenesis.

Thyroid Autoimmunity in Female Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology Outcome

Ines Bucci et al.

Summary: The regulation of the female reproductive system by thyroid hormones is crucial for normal menstrual function, fertility, and successful pregnancy. Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) is prevalent among women and is associated with infertility and negative reproductive outcomes. The role of TAI, especially in the absence of thyroid dysfunction, in assisted reproductive technology (ART) is still controversial.

Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes After Assisted Reproductive Technology: A Retrospective Cohort Study in China

Wen Tai et al.

Summary: This study found that women conceived by assisted reproductive technology (ART) have increased risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes compared with naturally conceived women. These risks include gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, preterm birth, and multiple pregnancies. ART pregnancies are also associated with a higher proportion of stillbirths or abnormal development in newborns. Prenatal and intrapartum monitoring should be strengthened for ART pregnancies.

Association of History of Spontaneous or Induced Abortion With Subsequent Risk of Gestational Diabetes

Yan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that a history of spontaneous abortion (SAB) was associated with increased risk of gestational diabetes (GD) in subsequent pregnancies, while there was no association between induced abortion history and GD.

Analysis of the risk of complications during pregnancy in pregnant women with assisted reproductive technology: a retrospective study using registry linkage from 2013 to 2018 in Shanghai, China

Mulan He et al.

Summary: The study compared pregnancy outcomes between ART patients and natural pregnant women in Shanghai, China over the past 6 years. ART patients had higher rates of complications, with FET patients showing a higher risk and severity of pregnancy-induced hypertension compared to fresh embryo transfer patients. The study also highlighted the feasibility and objectivity of using registry-database linkage in mainland China.

Does a history of recurrent pregnancy loss affect subsequent obstetric outcomes and placental findings in in vitro fertilization?

Hadas Ganer Herman et al.

Summary: This study assessed perinatal outcomes and placental findings in IVF patients with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). The results showed that patients with RPL had a limited number of placental lesions, but similar obstetric outcomes compared to patients without RPL.

Perinatal Outcomes in Women with a History of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Elizabeth B. Ausbeck et al.

Summary: This study found that women with a history of >= 2 consecutive spontaneous abortions were not more likely to have preterm birth, but may be at increased risk for gestational diabetes in a subsequent pregnancy. Other perinatal outcomes were similar between the two groups.
