TiO2@SiO2 nanoparticles for methylene blue removal and photocatalytic degradation under natural sunlight and low-power UV light

Urbashi Mahanta et al.

Summary: An efficient SiO2-TiO2 nanoparticle system has been developed for enhanced photocatalytic degradation under natural sunlight and low-power UV light. Different mole ratios of SiO2 to TiO2 were used, with the 5:1 ratio system showing the highest adsorption capacity and the 2:1 ratio system demonstrating the best photocatalytic degradation performance.

A multiple regression assessment of the biomineral urease activity from urine drainpipes of California public restrooms

Kahui Lim et al.

Summary: This study aims to characterize the ureolytic activity of biomineralization in alternative technologies located at state-owned restrooms and identify its influencing factors. The results suggest that intrasystem sampling location, annual users per rest area, and volatile solids to total solids mass fraction are significant influencers of ureolytic activity. However, ureC gene abundance, urinal type, and sampling season do not significantly predict biomineral ureolytic activity. Future studies should consider assessing ureC transcriptional activity to measure gene expression and better understand the relationship between environmental conditions and urease activities.

Single-phase Gd0.2La0.2Ce0.2Hf0.2Zr0.2O2 and Gd0.2La0.2Y0.2Hf0.2Zr0.2O2 nanoparticles as efficient photocatalysts for the reduction of Cr(VI) and degradation of methylene blue dye

Mariappan Anandkumar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of noble metal-free multi-component equiatomic oxides as efficient photo-catalysts for the degradation of Cr(VI) and methylene blue dye under natural sunlight, with complete reduction of Cr(VI) and significant degradation of methylene blue. The unique composition of these oxides, containing five components in equimolar amounts, played a key role in their effective photocatalytic activity. Additionally, the role of oxygen vacancies in the photo-catalytic reduction of Cr(VI) and degradation of methylene blue was discussed.
