A scenario discovery approach to least-cost electrification modelling in Burkina Faso

Andreas Sahlberg et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first application of the scenario discovery approach in geospatial electrification modelling, identifying key drivers of high electrification costs and providing a structured way to analyze more parameters. The scenario discovery analysis highlights the importance of factors such as grid electricity generation cost and discount rate in determining the cost of electricity in Burkina Faso.

A critical review of literature on the nexus between central grid and off-grid solutions for expanding access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia

S. C. Bhattacharyya et al.

Summary: This paper critically examines the literature on the grid-offgrid debate and finds that model results are seriously influenced by various factors including assumptions, data limitations, technology choices, and model flexibility. Existing models have weaknesses such as exclusion of grid system generation costs, lack of village level information, inherent bias towards scale and technology type, and absence of social equity considerations.
