Summary: The content of mesenteric lymphatic malformations plays a crucial role in surgical decision-making and outcomes. LMs with chylous content appear to develop from malformed lymphatic channels within the bowel wall and require intestinal resection, while LMs with nonchylous content can potentially be managed without bowel resection if blood supply is preserved. This study provides novel insights into the pathologic mechanisms of mesenteric LMs with different contents.

Preoperative complications in children with mesenteric lymphatic malformations: Incidence, risk factors and outcomes

Summary: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the preoperative complications and their impact on outcomes in children with mesenteric lymphatic malformations (ML). The study found that the location and size of the cyst were independent risk factors for preoperative hemorrhage or infection, and ML in the jejunal mesentery was an independent risk factor for preoperative intestinal volvulus.
