Wear resistance, hardness, and microstructure of carbide dispersion strengthened high-entropy alloys

A. Hegazy Khallaf et al.

Summary: In this study, a (CrFeCoNi) high-entropy alloy was reinforced with different contents of WC particles using powder metallurgy. The results showed that the addition of WC improved the density, compressive strength, wear resistance, and decreased the coefficient of thermal expansion. A mathematical model was established to predict the strength behavior of the material.

High-Speed Laser Metal Deposition of CrFeCoNi and AlCrFeCoNi HEA Coatings with Narrow Intermixing Zone and their Machining by Turning and Diamond Smoothing

Thomas Lindner et al.

Summary: The production of high-quality high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings using high-speed laser metal deposition (HS-LMD) is presented in this study. The coatings showed a good agreement with the chemical composition of the powder feedstock material, and chemical intermixing was found only at the substrate interface. The coatings exhibited a homogeneous structure, strong substrate bonding, and improved surface roughness after machining and diamond smoothing.

The effect of Si and Ge on the elastic properties and plastic deformation modes in high- and medium-entropy alloys

Raquel Lizarraga et al.

Summary: Quantum mechanics modeling was used to investigate the effects of Ge and Si solute elements on the elastic properties and plastic deformation modes in high-entropy and medium-entropy alloys. The study revealed that the activated deformation modes in all alloys studied are the stacking fault mode (dominant) and the full-slip mode (secondary), with twining becoming favored as the concentrations of Ge and Si increase. The calculated trends for Young's and shear modulus as well as lattice parameters were verified by measurements.

Powder plasma arc additive manufactured CoCrFeNi(SiC)x high-entropy alloys: Microstructure and mechanical properties

Qingkai Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, powder plasma arc additive manufacturing (PPA-AM) was used for the first time to fabricate CoCrFeNi(SiC)(x) (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5) HEAs. It was found that with increasing of SiC content, the microstructure of CoCrFeNi(SiC)(x) HEAs changed, leading to significant improvements in both hardness and yield strength. The main strengthening mechanism of the HEAs was identified as solid-solution and second phase strengthening.
