Tamm plasmon polariton in planar structures: A brief overview and applications

Chinmaya Kar et al.

Summary: This article reviews the research and development of Tamm plasmon polariton excited at the interface of a metal and a distributed Bragg reflector. It provides an easy planar solution with huge field enhancement at the interface and does not require any phase matching method for its excitation. The article also discusses the various properties and applications of Tamm plasmon modes.

Dual-band nonreciprocal thermal radiation by coupling optical Tamm states in magnetophotonic multilayers

Jun Wu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a dual-band nonreciprocal thermal emitter achieved by utilizing the magneto-optical material and the coupling effect of two optical Tamm states (OTSs). The emitter exhibits near-complete dual-channel nonreciprocal thermal radiation at the wavelengths of 15.337 μm and 15.731 μm, assisted by the nonreciprocity of the magneto-optical material and the coupling effect of two OTSs for an external magnetic field of 3T and an incident angle of 56 degrees. The work may open the way for constructing dual-band and multi-band nonreciprocal thermal emitters.

Polarization modal analysis of Tamm plasmon at the metal-DBR interface for temperature sensing

Partha Sona Maji et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) polarized guided optical Tamm-plasmon (OTP) modes at the interface of a metal-distributed Bragg reflector for temperature sensing applications. The performance and sensitivity variation of both polarizations were investigated in a Ta2O5/SiO2 bilayer system on an Ag plasmonic material for different angles of incidence (AOI). The guided OTP modes (TE and TM) exhibit interesting sensing characteristics that can be tailored or extended for specific applications.

Tunable perfect dual-narrowband absorber based on graphene-photonic crystal heterostructure

Yuexiang Wu et al.

Summary: A dual-narrowband absorber consisting of graphene and a photonic crystal heterostructure is proposed and analyzed in the terahertz band. The absorption is greatly enhanced due to the excitation of optical Tamm states at the interfaces. The absorber exhibits narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) absorption peaks that can be tuned by controlling the graphene Fermi energy and photonic crystal periods, and it also maintains high absorption over a wide incident angle range for both TE and TM polarization. The proposed absorber has potential applications in THz biosensors, filters, and switches.

Design of a Highly Sensitive Self-Reference Tamm-Plasmon-Polariton Sensor Employing Ti3C2Tx MXene

Abinash Panda et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design and analysis of a self-reference refractive index sensor for precise detection of different concentrations of H5N1 virus in poultry. The sensor is based on Tamm plasmon polariton (TPP) modes excited between Ti(3)C(2)Tx MXene and a cavity layer integrated with a 1D photonic crystal (PhC). The self-reference characteristics of the sensor significantly reduce error contributions from environmental factors. The proposed MXene-based TPP sensor shows improved electric field intensity (EFI) and sensitivity compared to traditional TPP sensors.

Double-Resolved Beam Steering by Metagrating-Based Tamm Plasmon Polariton

Rashid G. Bikbaev et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates that the phase and amplitude of a plane wave reflected from a subwavelength grating on top of a Bragg reflector can be dynamically controlled by modulating the refractive index of a transparent conductive oxide layer. The study also shows the electrical switching of diffracted beams and the possibility of doubling the angular resolution of beam steering using an asymmetric reflected phase distribution.

Tamm Plasmon-Polariton Ultraviolet Lasers

Wen-Hui Xu et al.

Summary: A ZnO-based Tamm plasmon-polariton ultraviolet laser was successfully realized with strong electric field confinement in the active layer. The coupling between TPPs and photons with a Rabi splitting of approximately 30 meV was observed at room temperature. In addition, TPP lasing at 373 nm was clearly observed through optical pumping, and its corresponding characteristics were verified. These results provide a basis for better understanding of the TPP lasing mechanisms.

Generation and Tunability of Supermodes in Tamm Plasmon Topological Superlattices

Tong Qiao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Tamm plasmon topological super-lattice (TTS) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated by engineering Tamm photonic crystals (TPCs) of different topologies. Hybrid topological interface states of Tamm plasmon, called supermodes, are obtained through the coupling of topological interface states existing between different TPCs. The bandwidth of supermodes can be tuned by varying the etching depth difference between double-layer metasurfaces.
