Antimicrobial properties of co-doped tricalcium phosphates Ca3-2x(M′M′′)x(PO4)2 (M = Zn2+, Cu2+, Mn2+ and Sr2+)

Dina V. Deyneko et al.

Summary: Substituted and co-substituted beta-tricalcium phosphate-based solid solutions were synthesized via solid-state route. The crystal structures, chemical compositions, and antibacterial properties were characterized. The results showed that the occupation of crystal sites by doping ions played a crucial role in the antimicrobial activity of the samples.

Strontium Substituted Tricalcium Phosphate Bone Cement: Short and Long-Term Time-Resolved Studies and In Vitro Properties

Julietta Rau et al.

Summary: By using short- and long-term time-resolved techniques, the potential of strontium substituted beta-tricalcium phosphate (Sr-TCP) cement for bone regeneration is explored. The disappearance of Sr-TCP phase and the appearance of brushite phase are observed after 45 minutes of cement setting. The compressive strength of Sr-TCP cement increases over time and reaches its maximum after 21 days. The presence of apatite final product with an admixture of brushite and TCP phases is detected after 21 days of cement soaking in Ringer solution.
