Tribological behavior prediction of composite MoS2-TiO2 coating using Taguchi coupled artificial neural network approach

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: Solid lubricants are commonly used in tribological applications due to their excellent lubricating properties in extreme environmental conditions. The tribological performance of lubricated surfaces can be significantly improved by optimizing the coating material properties. In this study, a composite MoS2-TiO2 coating was fabricated and the effects of different parameters on the tribological behavior of the coating were investigated using design of experiment techniques such as Taguchi and artificial neural network (ANN) approach. The study showed that ANN provides more accurate predictions of the responses compared to the Taguchi approach.

Tribological and anti-corrosion performance of epoxy resin composite coatings reinforced with differently sized cubic boron nitride (CBN) particles

Zhiping Huang et al.

Summary: By incorporating differently sized cubic boron nitride (CBN) particles into epoxy resin (EP) composite coatings on stainless steel, the tribological and anti-corrosion properties of the coatings can be enhanced. The optimal tribological performance for dry sliding is achieved when the additive proportion of microsized and nanosized CBN particles is 1:1, while the best tribology and corrosion resistance performance in seawater conditions is achieved when the ratio is 2:1. The microparticles play a more important role in load-carrying capacity under seawater lubrication, while a more compact structure improves the electrolyte barrier ability of the composite coatings.

Influence of preparation method on microstructure and tribological behavior of C/C-BN composites

Fuhai Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, C/C-BN(P) composites were successfully prepared by the combined methods of SI and CVI, exhibiting improved tribological behavior attributed to the combined effect of SI and CVI on the microstructure and mechanical properties. Additionally, the excellent reinforcement of C/C-BN(P) composites can significantly reduce the friction coefficient and wear loss, making them promising materials for anti-friction and wear-resistant applications.

Friction and wear behaviour of composite MoS2-TiO2 coating material in dry sliding contact

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: In this study, the tribological performance of MoS2 coating was improved by incorporating TiO2 nanoparticles as a reinforcement material. The composite MoS2-TiO2 coating exhibited excellent tribological properties, with the crystallite size and weight percentage of TiO2 significantly impacting the performance. The influence of temperature and coating thickness on the tribological properties of the composite coating was also investigated, showing a decrease in friction coefficient and an increase in wear rate with higher temperatures and coating thickness.

Effect of heat treatment on microstructural evolution and properties of cemented carbides (WC-17Co) reinforced with 3% volume hexagonal-boron nitride (h-BN) and processed by selective laser sintering (SLS)

Joseph Agyapong et al.

Summary: In this study, a cemented carbide reinforced with 3% Hexagonal-Boron Nitride was processed using selective laser sintering and heat treated to study the effect of elemental composition and post-processing heat treatment on microstructural evolution and mechanical integrity. Heat treatment helped relieve residual stresses, with the as-printed sample recording the highest hardness value and the 1000 degrees C heat-treated sample exhibiting the best wear properties. The h-BN reinforcement demonstrated an improvement and stability in mechanical properties of fabricated parts up to 1000 degrees C.

Influence of Plasma Nitriding with a Nitrogen Rich Gas Composition on the Reciprocating Sliding Wear of a DIN 18MnCrSiMo6-4 Steel

Rafael Luciano Dalcin et al.

Summary: In this study, the sliding wear of DIN 18MnCrSiMo6-4 continuous cooling bainitic steel plasma nitrided with a nitrogen rich gas composition was investigated. The samples nitrided at different temperatures and processing times were evaluated for their mechanical and microstructural characteristics. The samples nitrided at 550 degrees C performed better in wear resistance tests due to their thicker compound layer and higher diffusion zone compared to other conditions.
